Abstract
This paper describes the effects of magnetic field on dielectric breakdown of gamma-ray irradiated polybutylene naphthalate (PBN) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). The experiment was carried out by applying a dc pulse voltage under magnetic field. The magnetic flux density (MFD) of the magnetic filed was 495 mT. Both PBN and PBT were irradiated in air up to 100 kGy and then up to 1000 kGy with a dose rate of 10 kGy/h by using a 60Co gamma-source. Obtained results revealed that with increasing of the total dose of irradiation, the time to dielectric breakdown increased with PBN, but decreased with PBT; the discharge quantity decreased with PBN, but increased with PBT. The discharge quantity for both PBN and PBT all decreased under magnetic field, and the time to breakdown of them were all delayed.
