Abstract
The increasing workload of academic staff justifies the exploration of possibilities to assist them with their administrative tasks. One of the possible duties that can be automated effectively is that of assessment. This paper deals with the evaluation of customised software packages that generate question papers from an item batik. A set of required functionalities were weighted according to lecturers´ subjective feed back and the research results were used to compile an instrument that can either be used to evaluate existing packages or as checklist for future system developers to ensure that the system fulfils with the users´ needs.
