Abstract :
Today, there is a large amount of interest from experienced engineers to be founders of semiconductor related companies. The paper highlights the key strategic issues involved in starting a chip-related venture. The same ideas apply whether starting a design house, IP firm, or a fabless chip company. The paper does not cover administrative issues such as getting permits, government regulations, etc. Neither does it focus on how to write a business plan. Those are prerequisites that must be done for any startup. The focus in the paper is on those higher-level strategic issues that are success factors for emerging chip firms
