Abstract :
Nice penetration capability and fine time resolution have been considered as important properties of the ultra-wideband (UWB) signal. The characteristic of UWB through-material propagation needs to be reevaluated since the FCC-defined spectrum mask does not match the traditional impulse radio signal spectrum. A set of frequency domain measurement results conducted for this purpose are presented. The UWB ambiguity function is defined and evaluated to illustrate the time resolution UWB signal; timing issues pertinent to the system design are discussed.
