  • Abstract
An adaptive scheme for detecting aircraft aerodynamic damage is presented and analyzed based on a recently-developed linear aircraft dynamic model which captures the structure changes caused by system damage. The proposed adaptive detection design employs a model based approach using the aircraft model structure information, in particular, the coupling of the lateral and longitudinal dynamics. A two-detector algorithm is used, with one detector for a healthy model and one detector for a damage model, to generate two detection errors whose behaviors are compared for detection of a possible damage in the system. Desired damage detection system performance is illustrated by simulation results.
