Abstract
In this paper a novel initial acquisition scheme which reduces the acquisition time of the sliding correlator in impulse based ultra wide band (UWB) systems is proposed. In the proposed scheme pulse signals for acquisition as well as for information are transmitted. The acquisition scheme is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the correlator is synchronized with the pulse signals for acquisition. Based on the timing information of the pulse signals for acquisition, the timing of the pulse signals for information is determined in the second stage. Consequently the acquisition time can be reduced.
