Abstract
The self-similar model for Internet traffic can be considerably improved if it gets combined with the fact that data packets get sent out as quantized quantities instead of continuously, which effectively leads to its discretization. In particular, this new model captures the fluctuation of the autocorrelation of the traffic according to the time scale the traffic is examined at.
