Abstract
Long-distance, large-capacity transmission experiments at KDD are reviewed. Both IM-DD WDM technology and optical TDM technology are discussed. Firstly, the field test of the system upgrade of the EDFA based undersea cable system using the WDM technology is presented. Secondly, 80 Gbit/s transmission over 7000 km is demonstrated by using IM-DD WDM technology. Finally, 20 Gbit/s transmission over 14000 km is demonstrated by using optical TDM technology.
