Abstract
How to apply the online social learning communities into physical social learning communities is an important research issue. This work describes the design and implementation of multilayer educational services platforms for learners to construct their own online social learning communities and to integrate their online environments into a large public learning portal site-EduCities. In order to integrate different kinds of learning environments, multilayer framework were designed. An architecture called EduX is proposed and implemented to integrate with K-12 learning communities. One year after the EduX system was released on the Internet, 1802 schools, 13023 classes, and 96222 individuals in Taiwan had registered to use the system to construct their own online learning communities. Evaluation results indicate that the system is satisfied with teachers and students in building K-12 learning communities.
