Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Several test-beds are currently being planned in the frame of ACTS projects with a view to promoting the Pan European networks. The baseline for the number of these projects is wavelength multiplexing. The functionalities and the devices needed for these networks are reviewed. Networks can already be built using today´s existing devices, although the development currently undertaken within ACTS will allow functionality to further increase and cost to decrease.
