Abstract
This paper demonstrates on how the edges affect the performance of the 3-dB coupler design operating in ultra wide band frequency range. The proposed design is accomplished using multilayer technology in which the structure is formed by 3 layers of conductors and interleaved by a layer of substrate between each one of the conductor layer. The simulation was carried out using CST Microwave Studio then the result being compared with non-contoured shaped coupler´s result that using the same technique. The difference between both designs is the smoothness of the edges of the designs which will be further discussed in next section. Based on the results, the coupler design with contoured shape shows better performances compare to the non-contoured shape coupler.
