Abstract :
The EMC directive deals with apparatus capable of causing a disturbance or which might lose performance in the presence of an electromagnetic disturbance. The essential and mandatory requirement is that such apparatus shall not prevent other apparatus from operating as intended, and that the apparatus itself shall have an adequate level of immunity to allow it to operate as intended. This is dealt with in detail in Articles 1, 2 and 4 of the directive. The national legal requirements of the member states adopting the directive and their infringement are discussed. The use of CE marking is also mentioned as are the cases when a standard is applied. Extracts from various standards are given and immunity testing is discussed
