Abstract
A repeaterless 4/spl times/10 Gbit/s WDM transmission with remotely pumped preamplifiers pumped by standard semiconductor lasers is demonstrated. A power budget of more than 61 dB with a span length of 254 km is demonstrated. The link consists of 175 km standard SMF, 79 km pure silica core fibre and a remote post amplifier as well as a remote pre-amplifier.
