Abstract :
There is considerable interest in using industrial co-generating units for base load electric power because of their potential for increasing the thermodynamic efficiency of fuel use [1,2]. When co-generating units, however, become integrated into an electric utility system, the two distinct aspects that their outputs are not dispatchable by utility operators, and they follow industry working schedule, have to be modeled properly in order to reflect the impacts of these sources on the overall utility system reliability. This paper presents an analytical method developed to model the fundamentally different operating characteristics of co-generation sources in conventional generating capacity reliability evaluation.
