Abstract :
Third generation wireless communication systems should not only support more users, but should also transmit voice, video and multimedia traffic at higher data rates. Inevitably, these demands require more efficient fading compensation techniques. These techniques use properties of the channel transfer functions and need rapid prediction of the future values of the fading envelop. The primary interest of the paper is to construct a spectral decomposition based on Slepian semi-wavelets. This decomposition can be utilized to recover and predict the fading envelop for band-limited signals, such as fading in mobile radio. A sampling type formula for numerically computing the spectral approximation of the fading envelop is given and is illustrated with examples.
