Abstract :
Since radio networks with mesh topology operating at high frequency bands suffer the degradation of radio link quality due to rain attenuation, it is essential to obtain a better understanding of the spatial characteristics of rainfall rate in order to confirm the route diversity effect quantitatively. The authors have studied the representation of spatial correlation where the joint cumulative distribution functions (CDF) of rainfall rate between two observation points are approximated by a bivariate gamma distribution (Nomoto, S. and Nakama, K., Proc. ISAP i-02, p.283-6, 2002). This paper concentrates the discussion on the spatial correlation of a rainfall rate obtained by data within heavy rain periods that rainfall rate exceeds a certain value at two locations simultaneously in the case of an approximation by a bivariate gamma distribution.
