Abstract
The object of this mathematical modeling project is to reduce the average length of stay in a hospital. By giving priority to hospital rooms for patients with heterogeneous ailments, and arranging hospital rooms for patients with homogeneous ailments according to the methods of FCFS and the hospital´s regulations, an optimized hospital bed schedule can be found. After combining this schedule with the improved M/M/C model, and processing a large amount of data to find the optimal average waiting time in a queue, it is possible to obtain the average length of stay for patients in the hospital system. It is then possible to change the hospitals operation scheduling rules in order to find the shortest possible length of stay, and to finalize a plan for the rational arrangement of hospital beds.
