Abstract :
ATS obsolescence has a critical impact on operational readiness. Resolving ATS obsolescence problems is often a very costly endeavor. Various technical solutions have been suggested for this purpose. This paper presents the "lessons learned" from past obsolescence mitigation programs. The main conclusion of the analysis is that ATLAS re-hosting, possibly complemented by subset conversion, is an effective approach for solving TPS obsolescence. The paper offers a set of recommendations for using new software technologies and industry standards to resolve current ATS obsolescence problems and prevent future obsolescence. The authors recommend TPS conversion via test requirements, using general-purpose programming languages, along with commercial tools that have open interfaces based on industry standards.
