  • Abstract
A three-level neural model is proposed for studying human intelligence. The three levels consist of the basic neuron level, the module level, and the module organizational level (also called the neocortex level). To bridge the operations and the functions performed on both the module and the module organization levels, a concept called ´sensation´ is introduced. A sensation group is defined as the spatial distribution of sensations over the neocortex, which represents the sole vehicle on the module organization level. Since on the functional level knowledge can be described as the relationships among the sensible objects in the real world and also as mental ideas, it can be represented by the relationships among the sensation groups on the operational level. Several basic operational mechanisms involved in the origins of knowledge are discussed.<>
