Abstract :
Road co-operative systems based on vehicles to vehicles (V2V) and vehicles to road Infrastructure (V2I) communications are using mature technologies and protocols being under standardization in Europe and worldwide. Such technologies and protocols may give birth to many societal and business ITS applications providing innovative customer services. An important step forward to be planed is the Quality of Service and interoperability assessment of conforming products and services in a real environment exhibiting a high diversity of traffic situations. In parallel, it is necessary for involved public and private stakeholders to co-operate for the elaboration of deployment scenarios of the necessary ITS infrastructures. The setting-up of national and pan European Field Operational Tests (FOT) will contribute to the technological validation in complex and real road traffic environments. They shall also contribute to the identification by the domain stakeholders of viable, sustainable deployment scenarios preserving their respective societal and business interests. This article is considering here before identified aspects in the European context in co-operation with other worldwide initiatives.
