Abstract :
Intelligent transportation system (ITS) has been widely accepted to be an advanced technology for efficient city traffic control. Logistics, e.g. freight transportation, is a key subsystem of ITS. However, how to effectively capture and transfer logistics information has become a challenging and demanding issue in both research and industry communities. To address this problem, electronic product code (EPC) system is a promising solution. In this paper, we will introduce the EPC fundamentals, theories, system architecture, network infrastructure and information services for quick and safe information transmission. In addition, the subsystem EPC information service (EPCIS) will be presented in detail with its functionalities and structures in EPC system
