Abstract :
Smart antenna arrays utilizing blind adaptive beamforming for the detection of high order constellation signal in the presence of cochannel interfering signal is considered in this paper. The considered blind adaptive beamformer is based on the multimodulus array (MMARY), which is updated by the multimodulus algorithm (MMA). The MMARY is designed to overcome the problem created by the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) based CMARY and to handle nonconstant modulus high order signal constellations. In particular we show that the MMA can capture small and medium sized QAM signals (≤128-QAM) and fails to capture 256-QAM. To capture 256-QAM, a generalized version, namely the GMMARY is used which is based on the generalized multimodulus algorithm (GMMA). The GMMA divides the constellation space to multiple rectangular regions and can achieve lower steady state errors as each region now consists of a smaller number of constellation points. Simulation shows that the MMA capture the small and medium sized QAM signals (≤128-QAM) and fails to capture 256-QAM and the GMMA successfully to capture 256-QAM.
