Abstract
The primary aim of this work is to introduce the impact of the wireless channel in a macrocell mobile environment on the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation capability of two well-known adaptive and blind adaptive algorithms namely the least mean square (LMS) algorithm and the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) applied at the base station (BS) antenna array. In the present work, Matlab programs are designed to simulate the two algorithms, evaluate their relative performances in response to different input scenarios assuming ideal channel conditions. Afterwards, vector channel modeling of the wireless macrocell environment is investigated using the geometrically based single bounce circular model (GBSBCM). Finally, the impact of the wireless channel on the DOA estimation capability of these two algorithms is given, and the variance of the errors in the DOA estimate in each case is obtained as a function of the angular distribution observed at the BS.
