Abstract
The book has become the primary technology for information organization, communication, storage, and use. It is a mature technology, having evolved over hundreds (even thousands) of years to the current state that is relatively stable and unchanging. The book is the main technology used in education. With the development of the world wide web and the Internet, a new electronic information technology is challenging the book and promises to allow significantly improved learning. We give the Connexions Project at Rice University as an example of that new technology.
