Abstract :
Characteristics of electromagnetic and piezoelectric bandpass filters are discussed from the perspective of (commercial) radio land mobile communication systems. Since the mass marketing of hand-held communications products such as portable cellular telephones and radio pagers are driving the need for small, low-loss, low-cost filter technologies, emphasis is placed upon the capabilities and limitations of the various filter types considered in the light of these criteria. The discussions are limited to narrowband (<~5% relative bandwidth) filters
