Abstract
The IEEE 802.11e proposes new features to support quality-of-service (QoS) in wireless local area network (WLAN). It provides several configurable parameters for four access categories (AC) to achieve differentiated service in the enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) mechanism. However it is no longer effective when diverse burst flows present in the same AC. In this paper, an adaptive transmission opportunity (TXOP) allocation method, called surplus TXOP diverter (STXD), is designed to improve the performance of variable bit rate (VBR) video transmission. Through our simulation study, we demonstrate the STXD can provide good delay guarantee for burst video transmission without violating the long-term fairness. In multi-rate scenario, the STXD can solve the performance anomaly and guarantee time-fairness
