Abstract
Bulk shear horizontal (SH) waves are generated and detected by interdigital transducers (IDTs) in quartz. Propagation directions are determined by the frequency of the CW excitation signal. The main interest is that there is wave reflection on a free surface without transducers. Modifications of mechanical and electrical properties of this surface due to changes in the external medium (adsorption of gas, liquid deposition, etc.) will induce variations of SH-wave reflection characteristics. From measurements of these variations, the experimental behavior of the device can be characterized and sensors can be modeled. These sensors are well adapted to the analysis of physical parameters of liquids, such as viscosity, concentration, and phase transitions
