  • Abstract
In this paper it is proposed a method for the reduction with 20-30% of the reactive elements (condensers and inductance) of some rectifiers with near sinusoidal input currents (RNSIC). The method consists of connecting in parallel two RNSIC-1 converters, dimensioned for half of the nominal power and whose input currents are phased with an angle of 30deg-40deg through the adequate selection of the DC condensers of the two converters. With this asymmetry it is achieved a sufficient compensation of the 5th order current harmonic (these are the biggest harmonics), generated in the supply network. The new converter, called asymmetric converter, is more competitive as the three-phase, six-pulse, full-bridge diode rectifier with passive filters from an economic and technical point of view.
