Abstract
As computer systems process higher and higher volumes of economic transactions, the cost of a breach in service due to a disaster becomes financially intolerable. In situations like this, it becomes economically feasible to maintain a standby system with an up-to-date copy of the database. The design issues in building such a system are discussed.<>
