Abstract :
An angular plane-wave spectral analysis is applied to the interaction of light and sound in an acoustooptic Bragg cell. The angular plane-wave spectra of the sound field explicitly incorporate the constraints imposed by the transducer geometry as well as the anisotropy of the acoustooptic material. The analysis clearly shows the effect of apodizing the Bragg cell transducer (in both the height and length dimensions) on the resulting optical beam diffracted from the cell. The analysis can be used to optimize Bragg cell transducer geometries to minimize optical beam distortions detrimental to both acoustooptic Bragg cell spectrum analyzer and correlator applications
