Abstract :
The research presented investigated the effects of haptic display modalities on human performance in virtual environments. Force feedback information was presented through visual, auditory and haptic feedback modalities. Results show that haptic feedback greatly increases performance and reduces error rates compared with the open loop case. Redundant haptic information (two modalities at the same time) does not improve performance significantly, but is very useful in order to increase sensitivity
