Abstract
A high-resolution acoustic imaging system is proposed for imaging objects buried in soil. The system incorporates a transducer array that collects acoustic data as it is moved across the soil surface. A mathematical model and associated computer software are developed in order to simulate the signals acquired by the actual system. Subsurface images are reconstructed from simulated and real data by using delay-and-sum beam-forming and by the application of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) theory to this particular problem
