Abstract :
In two-mode highly birefringent photonic crystal fiber (HB PCF), the birefringence of the two guided modes can vary with the environment parameters such as pressure and temperature at the same time. It can be used as multi parameter sensor. In this paper a novel multi-parameter sensor based on two-mode HB-PCF is presented. For achieving high sensitivity a special structural PCF is designed. The distributions of pressure and temperature, and the variations of birefringence versus pressure and temperature in our proposed two-mode HB-PCF are investigated respectively. The results show that the designed multi-parameter sensor can measure pressure and temperature synchronously and it has high sensitivity.
