  • Abstract
    Currently, a reform of higher university education is ongoing in Russia. A transition to a three-level degree system i.e. bachelor, master, and PhD is nearly completed. This new, three-level system offers students extensive possibilities in educational specialization and degree level. At the same time, the new system keeps traditional typical for Russian educational system with single diploma engineer degree, that more strictly defines educational programme contents and the learning process. Information management systems (IMS) are widely used to direct the learning process. The key elements of such systems are: arrangement of curriculum composition for each specialty, student personal records maintenance, and control over learning process. Such an IMS was implemented in Bauman Moscow State Technical University. This system automates maintenance of 15,000 student records and about 3,500 educational subjects. It has automated document flow and analytical functions. The system was realized using open source software and service oriented information technology.It operates with both: new, multi-level bachelor-Master-PhD and Russian traditional single diploma engineer programme educational systems.
