Abstract :
This paper investigates the handover procedures for WMPLS (wireless multiprotocol label switching) and provides the performance results of WMPLS compared to WATM (wireless asynchronous transfer mode). The throughput comparison between WMPLS and WATM with GoBackN and SREJ ARQ packet/cell error recovery has been studied. With the adaptability of the packet size, WMPLS shows a much higher throughput efficiency compared to WATM for varying channel conditions. The priority classes of 1 through 5 of the WMPLS system performs better than WATM in respect of average queueing time. Also, the priority class 1 of the WMPLS performs significantly better than WATM in the inter-arrival jitter analysis.
