Abstract :
In this paper, the effect of SOA cross-gain modulation (XGM) is applied to eliminate the extinction ratio (ER) restrict of downstream signal in WDM-PON. A novel semi-passive optical distribution network (ODN) is designed, in which broadcast function is implemented in physical layer by adding a SOA to transfer broadcast signal from one channel to all channels. The scheme makes both high ER unicast and broadcast signal be transmitted in the downstream direction. Numerical results show that utilization of high ER Non Return to Zero (NRZ) signal improves BER performance of both downstream and upstream channels, when up and downstream data rates are 2.5Gbit/s.
