Abstract
We review our recent achievements in directly modulated laser (DML) transmitters for access/metro applications. Especially, we present the use of DC-balanced line coding to greatly improve the system performance of frequency modulated DML transmitters. Also presented in this paper is the use of duobinary coding to accommodate high-speed signals using low-bandwidth DMLs.
