Abstract :
We study the impact of the breakpoint distance on the capacity of a Manhattan like microcellular CDMA system. We consider the other-cell interference as a Gaussian random variable and we obtain its mean and variance as a function of the breakpoint distance. Also, the distribution of the BER as function of the breakpoint distance, the cell radio, the number of users per cell and the voice activity factor is obtained. We find the capacity range from 18 to 31 users per microcell for breakpoint to cell radio ratio greater than 3 and lower than 0.6, respectively, with a BER less than 10-3 and voice activity factor of 3/8
