Abstract :
The bandwidth of interconnect systems can be increased by making use of optical multimode waveguides. The design of electrical-optical interconnect systems requires special simulation techniques. This paper presents a new approach for faster time domain simulation of signal transmission along optical multimode interconnects; a genetic algorithm (GA) can be used to perform an efficient piecewise approximation of the step response of the waveguide by employing a few exponential functions. The use of a semi-analytical recursive convolution method decreases the overall computation time
