Abstract :
We present and analyse a distributed channel access control protocol in a direct sequence (DS) CDMA network. In this protocol, every channel is available for use in every cell and channel access decisions are made by the mobiles based on information broadcast from the base stations. This information is broadcast in the form of a channel access probability which is periodically updated at each base station. This is different from the access strategies which have appeared in the literature where call requests are processed solely by the base stations. One of the meaningful parameters in the performance characteristics of CDMA networks is outage which is critical because of CDMA capacity dependence on signal-to-interference ratio. In order to fully characterise outage in the network, we present a transient analysis of the distributed admission scheme. We compare our results with a simulation of a 30 cell network
