Abstract
A hybrid time-hopping/direct-sequence (TH/DS) spread spectrum multiple access communication system is proposed. The system is capable of supporting mobile multirate multimedia services. It utilizes orthogonal time-hopping to distinguish co-cell users and direct-sequence spreading to suppress inter-cell interference. The receiver structure for the TH/DS system is described. The signal to interference power ratio distribution characteristics are analyzed and simulated assuming power control is present. Numerical results are also given regarding the relationship between the bit error rate and system capacity under the assumption of average power control and ideal channel estimation. The results show that the TH/DS system is a feasible scheme for next generation mobile communications
