Abstract :
Major telecommunication organisations have used solar electricity for over 20 years as a practical and economic solution to providing the remote power requirements of telecommunication networks. The paper compares the experiences of Telkom South Africa, Telikom PNG and Telecom Fiji. The review of this past experience is related to future network expansion plans of these organisations. The increasing demand for rural service and the growing importance of wireless communication technologies places new demands on solar power which is playing an important role in powering the world´s converging telecommunication markets
