Abstract
Based on a commercial Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer, a miniaturized and ruggedized FT-IR spectrometer for underwater operation in a buoy or a tow-body has been constructed. In combination with a recently presented sensor head based on fibre evanescent wave spectroscopy (FEWS), the system presents a powerful and flexible analytical tool for both qualitative and quantitative detection of chlorinated hydrocarbons in seawater
