Abstract :
In this paper, the development of the off-line active clamp zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) forward converter, which can be used for telecommunication applications, is discussed. The operation principles of the converter are described to identify the zero-voltage-switching characteristic at the switches. The design guidelines for zero-voltage-switching operation of the converter are gathered. For an experiment we have built a 200 W (48 V/4.2 A) off-line active clamp ZVS forward converter, in which the switching frequency is 400 kHz, and tested it. From the experiment it is verified that the zero-voltage-switching operation is successfully achieved and the voltage stress at the main switch is effectively clamped to minimum value in the converter. The maximum efficiency of 90% is measured at full load in the converter
