Abstract :
Monitoring heart activity continuously is highly desirable in patients with heart conditions. In the conventional electrocardiography (ECG), galvanic Ag/AgCl electrodes are directly attached to the skin to obtain ECG signals. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility of recording ECG signals without skin contact based on a spherical volume conductor model. A novel capacitive electrode is designed and evaluated. Our theoretical study and experiments have shown promising results of this new electrode.
