  • Abstract
Intramuscular injections are a common medical procedure performed countless times on a daily basis; however the actual procedure of giving an injection is rather complicated and can be intimidating to nursing students new to the medical profession. The instrumented syringe discussed in this paper was conceived as a tool to help train individuals in proper injection procedure and technique. Utilizing force data collected from a sensor instrumented syringe, it is possible to plot and compare various data sets from different users thus providing valuable information and feedback on performance. The data acquisition hardware and software and GUI was designed, created, and implemented with the assumption that individuals using it were novices with technical background.
