Abstract :
A tunable microwave photonic filter (MPF) employing dynamic modulation based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) is presented. With low group velocity and low loss photonic crystal structure, the novel MPF with a length about 50 μm is proposed for 60-GHz ROF system. The modulation sensitivities are about 45/V for group index, 22.5GHz/V for free spectral range (FSR), while the device size is only 1.21% as the traditional fiber ring resonator. The extinction ratio of the MPF is about 10 dB, along with the 4.02GHz 3dB bandwidth, and the requirement of received data´s signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can be reduced by 9 dB for the 10-7 bit-error ratio (BER).
