Abstract :
This paper deals with the problem of the electromagnetic scattering from a sea fractal surface. The goal of the paper is to demonstrate that some fractal properties of the sea surface can be obtained by means of a fractal analysis of the microwave signal scattered from the sea. The authors theoretically analyze the signal scattered from a sea surface modeled by a two-dimensional time-varying fractal surface. The results show that the graphs of the in-phase and quadrate components of the received signal are fractal curves with fractal dimension linearly linked to the one of the sea surface. Due to the shortness of the paper the authors only report the main steps and the partial results that lead to the main conclusion. A complete mathematical treatment of the work is in a technical report by F. Berizzi et al. (1998)
