Abstract
Complex telecommunication systems consist of many products that interact with each other. Managing the life cycle of such a system from conceptualization to final removal from the marketplace is fraught with managerial and operational challenges. Given that many existing processes are limited in definition to the design and development aspects, General Instrument Corporation embarked on the development a process to encompass the entire life cycle of a system. A steering committee worked on the overall framework, and a broader group of participants further expanded and defined the entire process. The process, named SLCM (system life cycle management) is being put into use on all new projects in the Advanced Network Systems Group
