Abstract :
This paper describes a project that was done during a pre-university year in industry in 1996/97. The project was completed as a foundation for long term generator-motor (GM) stator vibration monitoring. From the findings of the investigation conducted during 1996/97 at the 1320 MW Dinorwig pumped-storage power plant, UK, it was possible to identify suitable methods of stator vibration monitoring. This has lead to further data collection in preparation for long term GM stator vibration monitoring. This will ultimately be used as a tool for condition monitoring
